Midwife Roles Band 5 & 6

Come and join our amazing maternity team.

We have a very successful and sought-after Midwifery Preceptorship Programme.Our Preceptorship programme was one of 5 of the 23 maternity trusts in London to achieve the Capital Midwife quality mark in the first wave. Whittington Trust follows best practice for Preceptorships, invests in midwives and supports their professional development at the start of their career.

The Preceptorship covers Antenatal and Postnatal wards, Maternity assessment unit, community and Intrapartum placements on both high-risk Labour ward and our beautiful Midwifery led Birth Centre.

For Band 6 Midwives, we currently have both core rotational posts available and Continuity team and community vacancies. Our Continuity of care midwives work between Birth centre, labour ward and community, working in various models of care. Midwives on this project are enjoying the combination of work areas and are maintaining a full range of midwifery skills and job satisfaction.

All applicants must have an active NMC Pin number by end January 2024

Main duties of the job

Band 5 and Band 6 Midwives

Salary dependent on experience

Band 5: £39,521 per annum inclusive of HCAS

(Fixed Term Contract - 12 months with permanent Band 6 given on completion of Preceptorship)

Band 6: £40,448 - £47,965 per annum inclusive HCAS

(Permanent contract)

Take this opportunity to join Whittington Health NHS midwives in our exciting innovative continuity of carer projects or for newly qualified.

We are a friendly unit where our staff are well supported through a strong practice development and PMA support systems.

Our midwives work a varied range of shifts and hours in all areas of midwifery including days, nights and weekends as well as an on call basis to support women birthing at home.

We also have vacancies to work in all areas of the maternity unit, including labour ward and antenatal and postnatal.

We look after a diverse population where women and their families are treated as individuals providing personalised care.

We are at the forefront of innovation, this includes partners staying overnight, enhanced recovery, and midwifery led induction of labour and normalising birth. Our community midwives are equipped with Ipads or laptops to support remote working in various community venues. We work closely alongside Health Visitors who are also part of our integrated service.

We provide a first class service, which is reflected in the number of positive compliments received from our satisfied clients

We have a beautiful Birth Centre with four pools and our Labour Ward has two birthing pools and telemetry to encourage normality.

Our maternity unit is undergoing exciting upgrades to ensure a smart environment for women to feel relaxed.

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife currently registered to practice

Desirable

  • Mentorship and assessing or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 year experience as RM

Skills

Essential

  • Must be able to practice in all areas in accordance with the Midwives rules and code of conduct
  • Can practice autonomously in the acute and primary care setting
  • Able to prioritise work load appropriately
  • Ability to conduct relationships in such a way that conflict is minimized
  • Ability to deal with challenging behaviour and circumstances
  • Competent interpreting CTG and intermittent monitoring

Desirable

  • Examination of new born
  • Has advanced clinical skills including, suturing, cannulation, maternal and neonatal resuscitation confident dealing with e.g. PPH, shoulder dystocia Eclamptic fits

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrate accurate drug calculation
  • Comprehension of current midwifery practice including the normality agenda
  • Comprehensive Knowledge of safeguarding
  • Basic IT skills and a knowledge of information governance

  • Ability to work on calls and provide cover over 24hour 7 days a week

  • Car Driver/Clean driving licence
