Lead Nurse / Deputy Associate Director of Nursing - Emergency and Integrated Medicine Integrated Care Service Unit (ICSU)
Whittington Health has an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join the senior nursing leadership team of the Emergency and Integrated Medicine (EIM) ICSU.
Emergency and Integrated Medicine covers the Emergency Department and Ambulatory Care Services, the Acute Assessment Unit, six medical wards, Endoscopy Services, all medical specialities, the Clinical Site Team, Palliative Care services, TB Community Services and hospital therapy services.

MAIN DUTIES
Clinical and Professional Leadership
- Ensure that, as a group the nursing services successfully contribute to the Trusts clinical strategy
- Ensure that the services have appropriate mission statements and objectives in line with this and that the ICARE values are incorporated into the work of all teams and individuals.
- To provide guidance, support and professional leadership to all nursing staff in their clinical areas with regards to service provision.
- To act as a positive role model though the provision of effective professional leadership for relevant clinical areas, maintaining high visibility through undertaking activities such as clinical practice or observations of care.
- To be highly visible, approachable and to be available to respond to patients, relatives, carers and staff, maintaining open and honest communication channels.
- To monitor clinical standards, evaluate patient care, ensuring practice is evidence based and that clinical guidelines and care pathways are developed and implemented.
- To identify and deal effectively with poor practice or declining standards of care.
- To report concerns regarding quality or professional practice. NB: Quality includes safety, effectiveness and patient experience.
- Ensure staff understand their role and contribution to patient safety in relation to infection prevention and control and have knowledge and competencies to ensure optimal care delivery by setting clear objectives, ensuring good links with clinical areas to ensure promotion of best practice.
- To encourage communication with patients, visitors and staff and through observations of practice and monitoring of standards ensure the maintenance of an optimal environment for patient care
- Engage with appropriate agencies as a nursing leader in the development of innovative nursing and AHP strategy
- To deputise for the Associate Director of Nursing in their absence on both ad hoc and planned basis
- To deliver the outcomes necessary for Peer Review to ensure the quality and safety of care as well as optimising the patient experience throughout the patient journey. To work closely with the Patient Experience Team to implement systems to monitor clinical standards ensuring high standards of care, that are evidence based and integral to service delivery , involving patients and others in developing and enhancing services. To ensure there are mechanisms in place to ensure National performance measures are achieved in their clinical areas (such as infection control targets and peer review measures)Take part in management on call rota.
