Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join us as PACS Manager at the soon to be developed community diagnostic centre. This is the chance to be part of something transformative and innovative and have a positive impact on how we improve patient pathways.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and leading the Picture Archive and Communications System (PACS), the Radiology Information System (RIS), Voice recognition (VR) and other Imaging IT systems across the site Trust. You will be the first point of contact for escalation of issues in relation to these systems, ensuring proactive monitoring and resolution is undertaken. This post is also responsible for managing and leading the PACS Team and working with internal and external stakeholders across North Central London (NCL) and delivering projects to ensure systems are fully utilised.

Main duties of the job

  • To take responsibility for the efficient working of the installed PACS and RIS ensuring that all data collection is of the highest calibre.
  • To ensure that the PACS contributes to effective patient management within radiology and the wider Trust.
  • Project management of all upgrade and system changes within Radiology and throughout the Trust liaising with the Trust IM & T Department.
  • Responsible for education and training of clinical and non-clinical Trust staff who use the system.
  • Devise and manage audit of all aspects of the PACS and RIS system.
  • Facilitate addition of new imaging modalities to the system.
  • Assist Imaging Services Manager in developing PACS & long term strategic planning.
  • Manage staff in the PACS / RIS team.
  • Undertake wider Departmental management duties.
  • Contribute effectively to the delivery of an effective and responsive Radiology Service.
  • Encourage the highest professional and technical skills in staff through personal example and constructive criticism.
  • To participate in the Governance of the Department in areas including Risk Management, Health and Safety, Research and Audit activities.
  • To develop and implement contingency procedures for both planned and unplanned downtime.
  • To be responsible to the development of Policies that are directly related to PACS and RIS
  • To provide highly specialist technical services and clinical advice.
  • Manage backlog reporting and outsourcing Services

  • Accountable for the efficient service delivery of imaging systems in the clinical environment, to always ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Maintain effective service delivery through the allocation and management of physical resources and responds to evolving clinical service needs.
  • Maintain detailed project implementation plans and report progress to Imaging IT Group and Business Unit to ensure effective communication channels are in place and maintained.
  • Manage project team meetings across organisational boundaries with relevant staff and stakeholders.

  • Ensure that all working practices adhere to the required level of IT security. Act as the centres expert on information security and best practice to ensure that Imaging IT systems and methods of work adhere to these requirements.
  • Develop standard operational procedures (SOPs) and user guides for all related imaging networked services.
  • Identify, develop, and deploy methods of work to support the concept of a digital Imaging and paper light operation.
  • Provide support, advice and education to other Business Unit staff in the effective and safe use of the Trust image storage, viewing and distribution services such as ophthalmology and respiratory services
