Job summary
Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS)22.5 hours/week | network role across UHCW, South Warwickshire & Nuneaton Hospitals including community sites and virtual wards.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Pathology Department at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW)--one of England's largest teaching hospitals. As part of the CWPS network, you'll work across multiple sites, contributing to a dynamic and innovative POCT service that supports rapid diagnostics and patient-focused care.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
Main duties of the job
As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you'll play a key role in delivering and developing POCT services across CWPS. You'll work autonomously and collaboratively to ensure high standards of testing, training, and compliance. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the day-to-day running of the POCT department and deputising for the POCT Manager.
- Supervision of POCT staff to ensure the team is meeting objectives and working effectively.
- Maintaining and validating a wide range of POCT devices (e.g. blood gas analysers, glucose/ketone meters, urinalysis readers, INR, CRP, HbA1c, TEG, COVID/Flu testing).
- Undertake regular audits on the use of POCT devices including the correct use of individual patient identifiers and barcodes.
- Training both clinical and non-clinical staff in the safe and effective use of POCT equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with UKAS ISO 15189 standards and contributing to the department's future accreditation journey.
- Managing quality systems and user databases and supporting breath test clinics.
- Communicating complex technical information to staff, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Participating in departmental teaching programmes and service development projects.
