UHCW NHS trust is a level one Major Trauma Centre and a tertiary neurosurgical and cardiothoracic center. We have 30 critical care beds on the General Critical Care Unit and 22 beds on the Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit. Our Critical Care services offer a broad experience in caring for critically ill adults in an innovative, challenging and aspirational workplace. We are committed to advancing nursing practice and our Clinical Nurse Training and Development team provide in-house training and support for Clinical and Professional development.We have the opportunity for an experienced nurse to work within our General Critical care and Cardiothoracic Critical Care Units as a band 7 clinical leader. You will work collaboratively within the critical care teams to meet the needs of patients and play a key leadership role in service delivery with adherence to policy and procedures.
Our Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit supports and cares for patients requiring cardiology intervention, elective and emergency cardiac surgery as well as patients requiring elective thoracic surgery and those with thoracic trauma.
Main duties of the job
You will also gain valuable experience leading and supporting staff in the care of patients with a wide range of needs including Trauma, Neurosurgery, complex Medical and Surgical patients such as, Haematology, GI Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Renal Medicine/Transplant surgery and Head and Neck Surgery.
- Accountable for own actions in accordance with Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute towards corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
- Highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high-quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations.
- Coordinate the care of critically ill patients through the critical care pathway to ensure the effective management of their patient group.
- A resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
- Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes.
- Ensure optimum patient management including patient monitoring; equipment management and defined expanded clinical roles.
- Proactively support relevant treatment plans for patients requiring intervention including fluid resuscitation, oxygen therapy along with the ordering of appropriate laboratory and radiology investigations.
