Job summary

Are you a Qualified Advanced Nurse Pratctioner with an interest in Paediatric Orthopaedic care?

You must be a caring, compassionate and committed practitioner who within your scope of practice will advocate for our children, young people and their families.

You would be joining our team of experienced Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultants and will work alongside our experienced Orthopaedic ANP to provide optimum Othopaedic care to the Children and Young People here at UHCW.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder is an autonomous practitioner who will exercise advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgement, discretion and decision-making in clinical care. They will provide advanced clinical skills and advice, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to the identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of the client group. They will monitor and lead improvements to standards of care through supervision of practice, clinical audit, evidence-based practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues, and the provision of skilled leadership. They will lead the implementation of relevant research into practice, contributing to the further development of the evidence base through research and audit. They will contribute to clinical governance within the service by leading audit and research as part of the MDT within the area of expertise.

Job responsibilities

Assess, diagnosis, plan and implement programmes of evidence-based care for children with paediatric orthopaedic conditions, with re-evaluation of implemented treatment plans as appropriate.To work autonomously within the paediatric orthopaedic in-patient, out-patient and emergency department setting. To include the allocation of independent caseloads and subsequent assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children with confirmed or unknown injury or illness. To work within the fracture clinic, baby clinic and general elective clinic settings, the emergency department and the wards.To assess the suitability for, and prepare parents and children for, surgical procedures.To provide post-operative care for patients on the wards, including HDU.To liaise with the nursing staff, anaesthetic and pain teams to ensure optimal post-operative pain relief.To provide expertise in the non-operative treatment of conditions e.g. bed rest and traction.To provide liaison with the emergency department regarding the assessment and outpatient management of children with orthopaedic injuries and conditions.To prescribe medicines in the capacity of an independent prescriber, in line with current legislation, local policies and within own of experience and competence. To prescribe medicines for agreed patients within the capacity of supplementary prescriber, in line with current legislation, local policies and within own level of experience and competence. Perform cannulation and venepuncture to stabilise or to provide diagnostic or treatment interventions. Order and interpret imaging, both within the acute setting and within out- patient clinical duties within agreed and ratified local protocols.
