Job summary
This role is an exciting opportunity to work across inpatient and outpatient paediatric services encompassing a variety of specialities including gastroenterology, allergies, complex faltering growth, restrictive eating, obesity and enteral feeding. There may also be the opportunity go gain experience in specialist areas such as IBD, Cystic Fibrosis, Cardiac conditions and Neonates. Whilst Paediatric Dietetic experience is desirable, applicants with a foundation of 12 months Band 5 experience in the NHS are welcome.
Job Overview:o To carry out dietetic assessment appropriate to role and experience, provide nutritional diagnosis and provide a dietetic treatment plan for patients / clients.o To hold responsibility for own patient caseload including patients with complex presentationso Maintain clinical records in line with local / Trust documentation guidelineso To liaise with dietetic colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team as necessary e.g. Medical, nursing, catering and other health care professionalso To work within National and Trust policies / guidelines; and HCPC and BDA standards and codes of conducto To have a solid understanding of national and local standards and able to monitor own practice against theseo To participate in bank holiday working and work flexible hours to meet the needs of the patients if required
Main duties of the job
With appropriate training and ongoing support, the main duties of the job include:
o Carry out dietetic / nutritional assessments (including interpretation of biochemistry,anthropometrics, clinical condition and diet history) to determine nutritional diagnosiso Use enhanced clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist individual dietetic advice andtreatment plans for patients who may present with multiple / complex clinical conditions takinginto consideration patients own goals and incorporate discharge planning as appropriateo Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment plans as requiredo Communicate nutrition and dietetic information in an understandable form to staff, clients andcarers using teaching, motivation and counselling skills including situations where there arebarriers to changeo Undertake department audit and service development work, translating findings into practiceo Plan and organise the clinical supervision of student dietitians on clinical placement includingplanning, timetables and written assessmentso Support teaching / nutrition education of peers and multi professional colleagueso Engage in department and own CPD activitieso Cover the work of colleagues and deputise for senior colleagues during periods of absence orpeak workloadso Participate in health promotion activities of the departmento Participate in other duties as required
