Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced AHP or Nurse to lead the Major Trauma Service at University Hospital Coventry.

UHCW is one of the busiest Major Trauma Centres in England. It is the hub of the Central England Trauma Network and serves a resident population of circa 1.9 million. The successful candidate will join an excellent, forward thinking team who are strongly committed to evidence based practice, patient focused service improvement and continuing personal and professional development.

You will sit within Trauma & Neurology Services, and work in collaboration with the Major Trauma Clinical Lead, Major Trauma Therapy Lead, wider multidisciplinary team within UHCW and the Trauma Network.

The successful candidate will be a high profile, accessible and responsive leader with managerial responsibility for the Major Trauma Service across the spectrum of the patient pathway. Able to make informed decisions within the Major Trauma Service and scope of professional practice, involving patients and public to ensure agreed national, regional, and local standards, targets and objectives are met.

Main duties of the job

The role willencompass the full set ofresponsibilities as set out in theaccompanying job description but in summary the key responsibilities are:

  • Responsible for the provision of a high-quality professional service coordinating the care of major trauma patients from arrival to discharge or transfer to another setting. Promoting best practice and overseeing a review process that looks at quality and efficiency to meet the needs of patients and service. This will include managing a diverse multidisciplinary team of health care professionals and support staff.
  • Contributes to development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines across the service, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
  • Support the Major Trauma Clinical Lead in developing and implementing the Major Trauma Strategy for UHCW in line with local and national directives.
  • Responsible for development, implementation, and evaluation of projects to improve patient care and service development through the audit cycle, linking to the clinical governance framework and business planning process.
  • Responsible for leading a programme of trauma education for hospital and network staff.
  • Knowledge of the national service specification for major trauma, peer review process and be responsible for the TARN team. Understand TARN dashboards with an ability to analyse data for governance and service improvement.
