Job summary
Here at UHCW we are a leading centre of Excellence for Trauma and we are currently looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic member to welcome to our Trauma and Orthopaedics team. Our orthopaedic surgery includes paediatrics, arthroplasty and revision surgery, soft tissue knee, upper limb surgery and spinal surgery. The trauma surgery workload varies, we regularly reschedule our elective lists to support the trauma service, particularly those with fractured neck-of-femur. We have developed a flexible approach, with the ability to manage rapid workload changes across multiple theatres. We contribute to the continual development of a quality service ensuring best practice is followed resulting in optimum patient care.
The post holder will hold a current registration with NMC or HCPC, have evidence of CPD and a teaching and assessing qualification. It would also be desirable for them to have a degree in relevant subject or be willing to undertake.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will need to have at substantial clinical experience in theatre preferably in The Trauma and Orthopaedic speciality and possess excellent communication skills and have a vast amount of knowledge with the ability to apply evidence based practice.
The post holder will also need to hold a good understanding of ICT and technology, be able to prioritise and meet deadlines effectively, and be able to use initiative and make decisions.
They must act professionally at all times,be motivated and be able to motivate others, be calm and objective and approachable with good interpersonal skills.

Clinical - Core
Assess, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the peri-operative care of patients using specialist knowledge and skills.
Acknowledge personal preferences, rights and choice of patients undergoing surgery.
Maintain health, safety, and the control of infection in clinical work areas in line with Trust policies and procedures.
Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs to patients, and monitor the effects of drugs on patients in line with Trust policies.
Prepare, monitor, and maintain materials and equipment for clinical procedures, take action if found to be faulty.
Support, monitor and care for patients during clinical procedures.
Contribute to treating patients during clinical emergencies.
Receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedures.
Education and Coaching
Continually develop own knowledge by evaluating and reflecting on practice.
Maintain a professional profile.
Create a learning environment in theatre.
Act as an assessor/mentor/preceptor to members of staff.
Teach others within the theatre area.
Develop and evaluate learning materials.
Ensure effective supervision and assessment of students within theatre.
