Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS) invites applications for a substantive Infection Consultant working in both the Virology and Microbiology departments. This is the first joint microbiology/virology post in the Laboratory Infection Sciences team in CWPS, and is an exciting opportunity to shape delivery of Infection services across our Network. We support the evolution of infection training and wish to develop a team with differing skill sets, in order to offer our patients the best Infection-based care available.
CWPS are a large pathology network in the Midlands, providing pathology services for University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW), George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust. This post will be predominantly based at UHCW, but cover for other sites may be required.
The candidate must be fully registered with the General Medical Council. They also must be included on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT at the date of interview.

Main duties of the job
Examples of the main duties of the successful applicant are below:

- Reporting of clinical samples both in virology and microbiology
- Liaising with the appropriate clinicians for priority samples such as positive blood cultures, primary positive blood-borne virus tests or samples that require immediate management input from a specialist.
- Bedside reviews of complex patients
- Bench rounds.
- Involvement with MDT's as directed by the departments.
- Quality assurance.
- Guideline development and reviews.
- Supporting IPC with routine interpretation work.
- Involvement with outbreak and root cause analysis.
- ITU/HDU ward rounds.
- Training of the Infection trainees.
- Infection education to a variety of our colleagues in and out of the healthcare setting.
- Attendance of the annual Microbiology/Virology review.
- Involvement with the UKAS process
- Involvement with quality improvement projects/audit/research.
- Keeping up to date with mandatory training, job planning and appraisal.
- Service development.
