Job summary

The post holder will be instrumental in the development of and then periodic production of Patient Level Costing Information, providing robust financial information to the Head of Costing. This will be an important role in ensuring the Trust is producing accurate Patient Level Costing and annual National Cost Collection data.

This is a senior post within the Costing department and therefore the post holder will be expected, at times, to work on their own initiative providing high level support to the Head of Costing.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the regular production of internal patient level costing information for the Trust and in the annual production and submission of the National Cost Collection to NHS England. Provide full support to the Head of Costing in relation to this and share outputs with relevant parties.
  • Have lead responsibility for the accurate collation of all activity for all of the datasets required for the costing process, both for internal and external reporting. Upload activity into the relevant SQL database tables and reconcile to source data values in a timely manner.
  • Take an active role in improving data quality. Be proactive in the resolution of any inconsistencies and incompleteness of data that may occur by using dashboard data quality reports and data validation reports held within the costing system. Investigate issues and take corrective action and reload datasets as necessary.
  • Responsible for training end users (e.g. Finance colleagues, Clinicians and Operational Managers) in using the output tool for the Patient Level Costing System. This could relate to navigation of the system and guidance on setting up new reports / layouts for analysis.

  • Lead on service development in the roles own specialist areas, proposing changes to procedures and policies operated within the Costing Department and ensure that the work that they undertake complies with NHSE Approved Costing Guidance. Improve and streamline existing processes and systems to promote greater efficiency and effectiveness to ensure processes are robust and well documented.
