Job summary

To lead a small team of people and be responsible for a specific part of the Ultrasound service within Radiology in accordance with department and Trust guidelines, policies and procedures.

To assist radiologists, ultrasonographers and nurses with the examination and care of radiology patients undergoing Ultrasound examination.

To provide clinical support to patients and staff as required on all UHCW sites (may include Rugby St Cross and City of Coventry Health Centre as required).

Main duties of the job

Ensure that Ultrasound services and staff within their area of responsibility are led according to dept and trust guidelines, policies and procedures, identifying any issues and acting accordingly.

Monitor and maintain effective processes within their area of responsibility raising any concerns with Departmental manager.

Co -ordinate in support of service delivery to ensure the smooth running of the ultrasound planned lists.

To participate in the developing of rota's to maintain adequate levels of cover.

Act as first point of contact for enquires to Ultrasound department, dealing with them accordingly in line with Trust policy.

Job responsibilities

To check patient identification and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests.

Prepare patients to undergo Ultrasound procedures, ensuring privacy and dignity at all times.

Maintain patient confidentiality

Utilise local IT Systems to secure accurate and timely patient data

To book any urgent in-patient scans as and when required.

To be familiar with, understand and apply the principles of Radiation Safety, both nationally and locally regulated or protocol led.

To facilitate communication between the department and all service users, patients, relatives, staff and external users, including any adherence to Trust policies.

Communicate with patients and professional colleagues in situations that may be traumatic due to pressures of work or where the patients condition may be a barrier to comprehension and compliance.

To assist in the implementation of all manual and electronic information systems ensuring consistently accurate data collection and recording, in support of standard data collection, performance activity, audit and Capacity and demand analysis.

To assist with the practical experience of newly inducted staff.

Ensure in house stock movement, especially specialist room stocks, and linen handling according to infection control standards.

Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
