UHCW NHS Trust is looking for highly motivated Physiotherapist to join the in-patient medicine team based at Coventry.
The medical wards at UHCW NHS Trust provide acute care for our community with a diverse variety of needs including renal, endocrinology, respiratory, cardiology, infectious diseases, long term conditions and oncology. As an experienced clinician do you have an interest in one of these areas? Is frailty or re-conditioning a passion you want to explore and develop?
UHCW is looking for a Physiotherapist with the experience and drive to provide a therapeutic service across a range of specialities. You will require good all-round knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the diverse caseload and have the respiratory skills to support our on-call rota along with a passion to explore and develop your area of interest. Your skills and knowledge will be enhanced through our specialist Simulation Training programme that supports on-call staff.
Our Cardiac Unit is a leading centre for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with a wide range of heart conditions and we are the regional centre for Nephrology and Transplantation for Coventry and Warwickshire. We cover up to one million patients and provide a comprehensive renal service; including all types of dialysis - for AKI , Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and End-stage Renal Failure (ESRF) - and both deceased donor and living transplantation.
Main duties of the job
The caseload includes patients transferred from Critical Care, to support their rehabilitation programme , optimising exercise tolerance and functional recovery.
The Medicine Therapy Team supports the following patient specialities (not exhaustive):
- Cardiology
- Renal
- Respiratory
- Infectious Diseases
- Endocrinology
- Oncology & Haematology
- General Acute Medicine
We have a 2 week supernumerary programme which will support your induction into the Trust and wider Therapies teams.
- To provide Respiratory Physiotherapy, including on the on-call rota and at weekends
- To support the learning and development of students and staff
- To develop enhanced clinical skills and knowledge in an area of interest linked with patient cohorts (e.g. frailty, specific clinical condition, prehabilitation / acute rehabilitation)
- To participate in 7-day working patterns as required

- Be professional, legally responsible & accountable for all aspects of own work and activities, to manage clinical risk within own clinical caseload.
- Carry a clinical caseload of highly complex patients, provide advanced therapeutic assessment & evaluation and provide detailed written treatment plans with patient centered goals working within ward / department areas.
- Work as an autonomous practitioner and member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to team discussions and influencing decisions about patient care programs, taking on the role of care coordinator where relevant.
- Carry out treatment, using a broad variety of modalities and clinical reasoning to allow selection of the most appropriate technique evaluating, modifying and recording all interventions and outcomes & adapting them to meet the needs of the patient.
- Use highly developed manual treatment skills requiring coordination, sensation & dexterity.
- Work in accordance with CSP & HCPC rules of professional conduct and within local care pathways, policies and standards.
- Establish and maintain effective communication networks with patients, carers, MDT, other workers and agencies across health, social care and the private sector locally and regionally.
- Contribute to the Group and Trust clinical governance arrangements and quality agenda, including the setting and monitoring of practice standards, clinical risks, CAE & Health & Safety.
- Take the lead for information management within area of responsibility to ensure high quality up to date written and electronic (where available) records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards & produce in a timely manner
