An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with Breast Cancer and Lower GI Cancers Interest to join our Oncology team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

This post will be based at UHCW with sessions at the George Eliot Hospital Cancer Unit. The appointee will work in site specific local and specialist MDTs at UHCW and GEH and contribute to the on-call rota (currently 1 in 18). Second site subspecialty, if desired, is negotiable. The role is supported by a dedicated CNS team. You will be expected to support the Acute Oncology Service and the Oncology ward in-patient care on call 1 week in 18. Patients will be treated in both the Arden Cancer Centre on the UH site, the Maple Unit at St Cross Hospital Rugby, and The George Eliot Hospital Cancer Unit Site.

Main duties of the job

The post is required to support the site-specialist consultant-led service including facilities for inpatients and outpatients, a dedicated chemotherapy suite and radiotherapy facilities. In addition, there is an integrated Oncology Clinical Trials Centre and the department is currently developing its Medical Oncology team.

The post is based at the University Hospital in Coventry (UHCW), with a weekly commitment at the George Eliot Hospital. The post holder will be expected to provide cross cover for MDTs and to liaise with the Acute Physicians/Emergency Department as part of the supporting the Acute Nurse Led Oncology Service and when on-call.

The key duties of this post will include driving forward Breast Cancer care in systemic anticancer therapy, and Radiotherapy/Clinical Trials.

Governance is a shared arrangement between UHCW and peripheral Cancer Units. The postholder will ensure that all services are provided in an effective and efficient manner and that the principles of risk management and clinical governance are maintained at all times.

The base job plan is for a 10PA contract (8.5DCC and 1.5SPA) with an additional 0.25PA payment for on-call commitments (on-call rota 1:18 consultant of the week model). Part time and flexible working can be accommodated. There is an expectation that up to 5 new patients will be seen per regular working week (up to 210 new patients per annum, based on 42 working weeks of routine work), in a 10PA job plan.
