Applications are invited for a substantive NHS Consultant post in Neonatal medicine, to join the neonatal team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) which is one of the designated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) within the West Midlands Operational Delivery Neonatal Network. We would be delighted to receive applications from enthusiastic colleagues, established/new consultants and senior trainees within 6 months of completion of training (CCT) who are looking for a new challenge and to join a motivated friendly and cohesive team striving to deliver excellent neonatal care.

The Trust has a large purpose built perinatal unit, which opened in 2004 with a delivery rate of around 5500-5800 babies per year. There are over 11,000 deliveries per year across Coventry and Warwickshire, for which University Hospital, Coventry, provides the majority of neonatal critical care. The purpose built Neonatal Unit has a capacity of 16 critical care cots,14 special care cots and 6 transitional care cots. The unit is designated network neonatal intensive care unit for the West Midlands ODN and provides 3500 Level 1 and 2 and 5500 Level 3 cot days per year.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join the existing consultant team which has an establishment of 10 neonatologists and will contribute to the delivery and organisation of the newborn service, participate in undergraduate and post graduate teaching and development of the service for the population of Coventry and Warwickshire. Areas of special interest to complement those currently exist would be welcomed. UHCW is also the host organisation for the new LMNS wide neonatal community outreach service.

Acute clinical duties involve sharing with the other Consultants, the management of the level 3 neonatal intensive care unit including labour ward, high dependency, special care, transitional care, and postnatal wards at UHCW on a weekly attending basis.

Experienced and well trained Specialist Neonatal Nurses, 9 ANNPs, Midwives and Nursery Nurses staff the unit. There is a full complement of West Midlands deanery neonatal trainees and the service is accredited for neonatal grid training.
