Job summary

The Planning Accountant will support the Head of financial Management in providing high quality financial planning and technical management accounting advice in respect of the production of both the Strategic and Operational planning.

The role will liaise with financial leads for planning and reporting across the Trust and be responsible for the development of robust information for both internal and external uses

Main duties of the job

Working with the Chief Management Accountant with the consolidation of Group Plans and reserves into the Trust's annual plan

Advising and supporting the Financial Improvement Team (FIT) financially in setting the WRP targets aligned to the planning guidance and internal Trust plans.

To prepare and monitor the underlying position of the Trust monthly for reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Management.

The post holder will provide technical support to the Groups in the preparation of organisational business cases, providing support to the Strategic Project Accountant in the preparation of financial models supporting strategic business cases.

The post holder will assist the Head of Financial Management in the preparation of the annual financial plans in respect of preparation of the Annual Budget setting Policy and the interpretation of national planning guidance ensuring a clear link between Income and Expenditure budgets, Waste Reduction Programmes, workforce and modelled activity

The post holder will be expected to identify policy opportunities and improvements in their team and the finance department and lead the delivery of these with senior finance colleagues.

The post holder will provide technical support to the Groups in the preparation of organisational business cases, providing support to the Strategic Project Accountant in the preparation of financial models supporting strategic business cases.

The post holder will be expected to develop mechanisms for maintaining audit trails to underpin the planning process and to work with internal audit to support analysis of financial planning processes.

Take responsibility for the population of national financial planning templates as required by NHS England and Improvement and support the completion of NHS England and Improvement information requests.

The post holder will take the lead in the production and maintenance of the Long-Term Financial Model (LTFM). This will include both the preparation and communication of assumptions and strategic developments as well ensuring the alignment of the financial plan and their impact upon the Financial Statements and Single Oversight Framework.
