Job Summary
We are looking to expand our current Ophthalmic Technician team within the department to
support a busy and well reputable ophthalmic department.
Main responsibilities are to assist the multidisciplinary team to provide an efficient and effective
ophthalmic service. Duties include performing various ophthalmic investigations including visual
field and acuity testing, which assesses the visual function of patients attending the eye clinic. The
role also includes ocular imaging and day to day administrative tasks. A key element is to assist
medical teams in providing gold standard patient care. The role involves meeting and interacting
with patients in a friendly and professional manner.
Main duties of the job
- Testing and recording of visual acuit
- Instillation of eye drops following completing a competency course under supervision of the medical staff
- To carry out basic procedures which are delegated by trained members of staff and which have been taught, subsequently supervised and in which the ophthalmic technician has proved him or herself competent. These will include assisting in the AntiVEGF injection rooms using strict aseptic technique measures, follow up of patients, auditing, medical assessment of patients prior to Eye angiography, referral to low vision and the ECLO, and possible future training on OCT depending on expansion of service
- Working pattern may include flexible working days with both long and short shifts and cross site working within the eye department at UHCW and St Cross Hospital
- To participate in skills training and assessment prior to undertaking additional roles such as service required as phlebotomy and cannulation, OCT and microperimetry and Angiography
