A standard anaesthesia list is assessed as taking 1.25 PAs for its completion, including preoperative and postoperative work as necessary, or 2.5 PAs for a whole day. This is increased to 3.125 PAs for cardiothoracic, some neurosurgical, urology, orthopaedic and gynaecology lists. It should be noted that the Trust is working towards 2.5 session lists (3.125 PA) throughout theatres. In two to three years, it is anticipated that most theatre lists will follow this pattern and job plans will be expected to evolve and include evening sessions.

There will be 1.5 PAs per week initially for supporting professional activity (SPA). SPA would include administration, teaching, mentoring, appraisal, CPD, audit, governance and other activities as agreed during the job planning process.
