Advert for Paediatric Function Lead

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical scientist / Audiologist to join our team to lead the Paediatric Audiology Service at the Centre for Hearing and Balance Disorders at the University Hospital of Coventry.

We serve a population of about 500,000 across Coventry and Rugby providing full adult and paediatric audiology services, maintaining IQIPS accreditation through UKAS for 10 years.

Paediatric Services include a Newborn Hearing Screening Programme, diagnostic services, habilitation support, listening and tinnitus support and hearing aid clinics. We have excellent links with education and community services alongside an established Children's Hearing Services Working Group.

We are an established training site for PTP and STP students from Aston University and maintain a robust competency assessment framework. There are excellent road and good rail links for commuting.

We currently work 37.5 hours over a 4.5 day week (or 9 day fortnight). We also provide a monthly dedicated training session for all staff to provide opportunities to ensure your CPD is maintained.

The department is extremely well supported by the Trust through the leadership of the Director of Clinical Diagnostics. Please be advised that you must have NHS experience to apply for this role.

Main duties of the job

LeadershipTo support the Head of Service in ensuring compliance with clinical standards and promoting CPD within the team. Promoting the highest levels of professional competence with the Service. To lead the team in the direction set by the Head of Service and Trust, leading change through people; holding to account; empowering others; effective influencing; collaborative working and service improvement skills

SupervisionAs Principal Healthcare Scientist you will support the creation of a learning environment which promotes critical reflective practice: helps staff overcome some of the considerable demands created by the nature of the work; reinforces and offers feedback on effective clinical skills/competence; enables improved effectiveness of clinical skills; assists staff to develop confidence in managing complex situations.

Highly developed specialist advice, which may be complex, sensitive and delivered within an emotive atmosphere, must be given to patients regarding their auditory or vestibular status and its management.

ManagementSupports management of staff and their associated personal development; service development within department; monitoring local operational policies and contributing to achieving service provision within the departmental budget.

Supports maintenance of quality standards with particular responsibilities as follows:

Maintenance of patient information systems to include e-library, information booklets and outcome letters

Supporting staff in ensuring patient's privacy is maintained, they are respected, and their comfort and security are assured through training, observation and teaching.

Auditing standards in relation to obtaining informed consent.

Introducing processes to ensure patient-focused care in line with departmental policy.
