Job summary

This post is an exciting new opportunity for a midwife who will help to improve the induction of labour process and flow throughout the maternity department. The post holder is responsible for ensuring that high standards of care are upheld at all times

Working with the antenatal ward, induction of labour (IOL) administration co-ordinator, Labour ward co-ordinators and senior maternity team they will take responsibility for providing support for the women attending the maternity department for an induction of labour improving communication and flow throughout the department.

Main duties of the job

Working in collaboration with the maternity team the individual will be expected to work closely with Modern Matrons and Ward Managers to ensure the efficient and effective running of the service. The post holder will work closely with the IOL admin Co-ordinator, antenatal ward midwives, Labour ward coordinators and matrons to ensure the efficient and effective flow of those women undergoing an IOL within the department. They will ensure effective communication between the labour ward and antenatal ward including effective communication to the women undergoing an IOL on at least a daily basis to ensure they have up to date information regarding the procedure and current waiting times.

They will ensure all women undergoing IOL have evidence-based information with shared decision making for the IOL process

The post holder will liaise with the IOL administration coordinator to plan for those women due to attend for IOL and prioritise admissions accordingly. They will Support the introduction of new initiatives in relation to IOL such as stretch and sweep clinics, IOL audits and further research.

This is a clinical position between the Antenatal ward and Labour ward to assist within these clinical areas as required to facilitate timely commencement of the IOL procedure and prevent delays of those awaiting an artificial rupture of membranes (ARM)
