Senior Clinical Fellow in Neuro-oncology

Job summary

The neurosurgery department is an established department with a team of nine Consultants with subspecialties in Neuro-Oncology, Vascular, Pituitary, Skull base and Spine. The department provides Neurosurgical services to the adult population of Coventry, Warwickshire and North Worcestershire. UHCW is a designated major trauma centre for Coventry, Warwickshire and Northampton, a designated cancer centre and hyper acute Stroke unit.

Please note that the expected start date for this post is early June 2023

Main duties of the job

To provide, in collaboration with clinical colleagues, a comprehensive Neurosurgery service to patients in the Coventry and Warwickshire area. This will include ensuring that all appropriate waiting lists and waiting times are adhered to; that services are provided in an effective and efficient manner and that the principles of risk management and clinical governance are maintained at all times. Whilst this position is not a formal RCS approved fellowship, the successful applicant will be given the opportunity to work alongside the existing Neuro-oncology surgeons to obtain experience and skills in a range of Neuro-oncology procedures (pending RCS approval) including:

  • Image guided brain biopsy
  • Day case Neuro-oncology surgery
  • Image guided Intra-axial brain tumour debulking/resection
  • Ultrasound guided tumour resections
  • 5 ALA guided resections
  • Awake craniotomy
  • Cortical and subcortical mapping
  • Resection of supratentorial, infratentorial and spinal benign lesions

Weekly attendance at Neuro-oncology MDT & Neuro-oncology Clinics with close liaison with Neuro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialists.
