We are looking to appoint an additional Consultant to our innovative and ambitious Plastic Surgery department. The purpose of this appointment is to continue to support and develop the plastic surgery department's contribution to skin cancer and Orthoplastic limb trauma.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated a high level of competence within the management of Major Trauma including hand trauma as well as skin cancer management that will help the department to continue its reputation.

The Department currently consists of 9 Substantive Consultants and our stated aim is to continue to build a first-class department that is recognised both nationally and internationally. We are looking for highly committed and enthusiastic individuals who not only share this aim but can integrate fully into the department which has remained a cohesive, well-balanced, and immensely friendly department in which to work.

Main duties of the job

Main responsibility and duties:

  • To actively provide and support further development of first-class plastic surgery service for the Trust, working in collaboration with clinical colleagues in all disciplines to provide an integrated service for patients.
  • Be expected to support the skin cancer SSMDT, to develop the sentinel lymph node biopsy service for melanoma and to perform block dissections of the neck, axilla and groin for metastatic skin cancer.
  • The successful candidate will be appointed on the new consultant contract which will consist of 10 Programmed Activities (PA's). This will consist of 8.65 PA's for direct clinical care and 1.5 PA's for supporting professional activities.
  • There is a commitment from the Trust to the postholder that they will have equitable working conditions to their colleagues. A job plan review would be timetabled for the successful candidate within 6 months of commencing post. Administration facilities at the Trust provide a hot desk for plastic surgery consultants within their specified office spaces with dedicated secretarial support
