At University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust we have a fantastic opportunity for a Locum Consultant to join our Vascular Surgery Team. The successful candidate will work with other members of the vascular surgical team to provide a comprehensive service to the Trust, Primary Care Trusts and General Practitioners, within the Coventry & Warwickshire County Vascular and Endovascular Unit.

We are a busy major trauma centre serving a population of 1.2 million. Our vascular unit covers the spoke hospitals of Warwick and George Eliot with all arterial work centralised to UHCW. We have a surgically led EVAR service with an active complex aortic programme (Fenestrated EVAR, TEVAR). We work closely with our cardiac surgeons and have monthly complex aortic MDTs. We also have an active research programme and teach Warwick Medical Students as well as postgraduate doctors.

Main duties of the job

You will:

  • Participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities
  • Participate in Departmental Error Reviews and will support the Departmental and Trust clinical risk management policies and procedures
  • Supervise trainees working in the Department and will assist in their training and appraisal
  • Demonstrate financial awareness and understand the impact of your and your team's decisions
  • Develop close collaborative links with clinicians and work to develop services provided to patients in these areas to the highest standards
  • Be committed to, and involved in, clinical governance, risk management and clinical audit
  • Have a reflective approach to your own practice and will agree a programme of continuing professional development which meets service provision requirements
