Job summary
Responsible for managing operational aspects of the pharmacy at St Cross hospital, including the management and training of Technicians and Assistants.
Responsible for ensuring the service operates efficiently to provide patients with their medication safely and in a timely manner.
To review technical and operational services, working with Pharmacy Operational Manager and the Operations Team at UHCW to plan and implement changes in practice or service provision.

Main duties of the job
Who are you?
Someone who is passionate about Pharmacy Technician career pathways and leadership. The successful candidate will be supported by rotational and specialist pharmacists and a strong technical team. This newly created role will allow the post holder to be the Pharmacy operational support at our Rugby site, interacting with management across the whole site and overseeing our pharmacy operations, supported by an experienced team. Support will come from operational peers and the Pharmacy Operational Manager.
Ambitious projects we would like to launch from St Cross include:
Hybrid one stop dispensing
Technician led wards for planned care
Driving the discharge Medicines Service (DMS)
These projects will require innovation, leadership and an anility to take teams on this journey with you.
This post will offer you the opportunity to work across two prestigious hospitals in Coventry and Rugby which include a breadth of specialties including Stroke, Care of the Elderly, Orthopaedics, an Upper Limb Unit, Neurosciences, Medicine, Surgery, an Outpatient Rehabilitation Unit and Inpatient Rehabilitation. The role will be based at the the Rugby St Cross site which specialises in elective surgery, medical wards and a wide range of outpatient specialties
Dispensing of TTO's and Outpatients is managed via our outsourced provider Lloyds Pharmacy, which allows our clinical teams to focus on ward based patient care.

- To provide the best patient care, The Trust offers a 7 day service, but dont worry, we highly value our staffs wellbeing and work to ensure that you are at your best ensuring that you get your downtime and time to recharge.
- Ensure the pharmacy service provided by their area is effective and efficient and maintains the highest professional standards by operationally line managing the Technicians and Assistant Technical Officers allocated to their service on a daily basis, ensuring they comply with all pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS), Health and Safety and Human Resources policies and procedures in liaison with Senior Pharmacy Managers.
- Deal with any operational problems when they occur putting in place changes to ensure these are effectively risk managed for the future. Escalating problems to the Operations Team at UHCW for further guidance and support
- Be an authorised key holder for the opening and securing of the department as and when required.
- To support the pharmacy Operations & Technical Lead in the review and validation of the pharmacy Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Major Incident Plan (MIP).
- Be responsible for department maintenance, temperature monitoring (including incubators) and equipment breakdown ensuring all actions are taken promptly and to a satisfactory standard to resolve any issues.
- Responsible for ensuring all mandatory inspections/audits, including health and safety for the department and clinical areas are completed, documented and reported back to the governance team
- To ensure the wards receive sufficient technical cover, supporting the role of the pharmacist, along with assurance of stock provisions ahead of weekends and Bank Holidays
