Job summary
Provide essential radiographic support to the Dexa service and support the training and supervision of new staff as per the RNOS structure.
Perform full range of imaging examinations consistently to a high standard ensuring compliance with imaging protocols.
Manage radiographic, technical, admin/clerical staff and students within a designated area.
Liaise with other staff and be responsible for the day to day organisation of the area/department in accordance with departmental protocols, providing management guidance during the absence of the Lead Radiographer.
To participate in additional shifts that include weekends, bank holidays and on call duties within the main Imaging Department only.
Please note this post is based at the St Cross site in Rugby. We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified candidate with a recognised qualification/previous experience in Dexa. However, we would also consider a candidate who demonstrates excellent clinical knowledge and skills who has a strong desire to train in the modality and commit to continuing to improve the well established Dexa service. Essential training would be provided.
Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced and innovative radiographer to join the Imaging Team at St Cross Hospital in Rugby. The successful candidate will predominantly support Dexa imaging, but will also rotate through other areas including General Imaging and Theatre.
You will join a small but dedicated and enthusiastic team and have responsibility for the timely, efficient and cost effective front line management of the area you are allocated to.
You will be directly responsible to the Band 7 Modality Lead Radiographer of the area you are working in. We encourage enthusiastic and motivated people, who wish to develop their team leadership qualities to apply.
UHCW NHS Trust is a large teaching hospital and undertakes training of student Radiographers and trainee Assistant Practitioners from several major universities. The trust is also looking to support the Radiographer Apprenticeship programme from 2023. It is expected that the successful candidate will take an active and supportive role in overseeing the training and assessments of any students who rotate through the department.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in on-call shifts covering nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Main Duties/ Responsibilities
1. To perform radiographic tasks and imaging, in line with governmental and departmental protocols, working both alone and within radiology and multidisciplinary teams.
2. To check patient identification and documentation, and ensure the appropriate radiographic examinations are carried out in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests, especially implementing departmental safety protocols
3. To evaluate images taken for diagnostic quality, and alert clinicians of any abnormality when appropriate.
4. To participate in the departmental Quality Assurance programme to ensure the efficient operation of the highly technical equipment, and to ensure compliance with best practice especially with reference to minimising radiation exposures as evaluated by dose reference levels.
5. To be familiar with, understand and apply the principles of Radiation Safety, both nationally and locally regulated or protocol led.
6. To give theoretical instruction, practical guidance, and supervision to less experienced staff, Student Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and trainees.
7. To assist with the practical experience of newly inducted staff
8. To participate in the 'Out of Hours' and 'On call' rosters, in line with the departmental agreement to support full 7 day service delivery.
9. Be responsible for the operational supervision and management of an appropriate area, assessing and managing workflow to utilise available resources, in liaison with other staff in the department, and in the hospital. In the absence of other senior staff to supervise other areas ensuring those areas are working to agreed standards.
10. Deal with day to day queries generated by patients, staff and requests presenting at reception, and arrange appointments as necessary with prior consultation with radiological and senior radiographic staff where indicated and liaise with clerical staff, adapting standard bookings for patient specific conditions.
11. To facilitate communication between the department and all service users, patients, relatives, staff and external users, including any adherence to Trust policies, including participation in annual appraisal/review systems.
12. Communicate with patients and professional colleagues in situations that may be traumatic due to pressures of work or where the patients condition may be a barrier to comprehension and compliance, e.g. Claustrophobia, learning difficulties or injury.
13. Report to the Lead Radiographer any sickness or absence from work of any member of department, assisting Leads with attendance monitoring, and staffing plans where appropriate.
14. To assist in the implementation of all manual and electronic information systems ensuring consistently accurate data collection and recording, in support of standard data collection, performance activity, audit and Capacity and demand analysis. Recording patient dosimetry in compliance with local requirements for dose reference levels.
15. To understand and use the relevant functions of the department and hospital information systems to include CRIS, CRRS, PACS and DATIX.
16. To actively participate in the Clinical Governance and audit programs of the department. This may involve preparing and delivering short presentations.
