Job summary

We are seeking a highly experienced renal technologist to be part of a dedicated and highly professional team working within the renal technology field to support the Trust's renal services. The post holder will have day to day responsibility for the smooth operation of the main dialysis unit, with particular responsibilities for home and satellite dialysis.

Whilst the post holder will assist in the co-ordination and management of the Renal Technical Service department the main focus will involve maintenance and servicing of equipment utilised within renal services.

We provide an effective technical support service to patients and staff, both hospital and home based, ensuring equipment is maintained in line with department and Trust policies.

Main duties of the job

We require a highly experienced and motivated individual who will bring excellent renal technical skills to the renal service.

You will play an important role as a member of a friendly, professional and highly experienced team, committed to providing a high quality service in line with the Trust's 'Together Towards World Class' initiative.

The technical team is responsible for maintaining a large fleet of BBraun dialysis equipment along with the ancillary equipment associated with haemo and peritoneal dialysis. This full time post will provide variable onsite cover between 07:00 and 17:00. Renal Technical Services supports circa 500 patients, over five Trust sites, including Nuneaton, Rugby, Leamington Spa and Coventry.

The successful candidate will be expected to have relevant renal technical knowledge and experience to take lead responsibility for a cohort of satellite units upon appointment.

Ensure equipment is maintained and serviced to meet internal KPI

Carry out monitoring of water treatment plant performance and water quality in line with national standards for renal dialysis.

Additionally, the role requires an in-depth understanding of a renal service's technical requirements to support the technical manager and deputise in their absence.

The department also supports a dedicated home dialysis team and provides a 24hr on-call service.

Job responsibilities

1. Provides a quality supportive technical service to patients and staff, referring any queries to appropriate members of the Multidisciplinary Team.

2. To have prime responsibility for the day to day running, including a planned preventive maintenance programme to dialysis and ancillary equipment situated in the designated satellite units.

3. To monitor, carry out first line maintenance and have prime responsibility for ensuring service contracts are maintained to the water purification plants in the designated satellite units.

4. Responsible for the day to day running of the main dialysis unit, including a planned preventive maintenance programme for dialysis and ancillary equipment.

5. Responsible for organising the installation of equipment for patients on home dialysis.

6. To assist with the development of procedures to cover the maintenance, servicing and testing of equipment.

7. Monitors service portals, keeping department abreast of updates

8. Ensures that new equipment is acceptance tested, documented and safety checked before use.

9. Undertakes a Planned Maintenance programme to both hospital and home based dialysis and ancillary equipment, having primary responsibility for a set allocation of home based installations.

10. Assists the Technical Manager with monitoring and ensuring the service contract is maintained with the water purification plant in the main unit.

11. Liaises with appropriate external agencies and essential services e.g. facilities management, water and power suppliers, manufacturers etc. as required, referring any issues to the Technical Services manager as necessary.

12. Continually assesses and evaluates all equipment used, being aware of and conforming to safe working practices as laid down by National and Local Policy.

13. Maintains and organises stock levels of parts and equipment ensuring best value in line with budget management.

14. Installs haemodialysis, haemofiltration, automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) and reverse osmosis equipment within the renal catchment area as necessary.

15. Conducts quality assurance of calibration equipment used in maintenance of dialysis equipment.

16. To demonstrate correct use of equipment to nursing staff and patients.

17. To supervise and train technical staff as required in the correct use, servicing and repair of equipment.

18. Participates in the agreed on-call rota.
