Working in Partnership with Coventry University this exciting new role of Practice Placement Midwife will be pivitol in providing support to the midwifery students undertaking clinical placements at UHCW.

Main duties of the job
The role of the Practice Placement Midwife for University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire Trust is to support the rostering of student clinical placements, teaching clinical skills, pastoral care and to develop, implement, support and evaluate learning zones within clinical practice. The role will provide pastoral support and training to midwifery students.
The successful applicant will be a conduit between Coventry university, midwifery students and their clinical placements at UHCW, they will be responsible for allocations and rostering to ensure that student placement is aligned to the allocations provided by the Practice Placement Coordinator and rostered to meet the NMC competencies.

1. Communicate effectively with clinical, operational, administration and university staff via email, telephone and face to face contact in order to deliver the requirements of the role, supporting students.
2. The Practice Placement Midwife will have experience that will enable them to:
Liaise via the Maternity Workforce Matron and Practice Education Team at Coventry University with regards to practice placement management.
In collaboration with the Practice Education Co-ordinator (Coventry University) and the Maternity Workforce Matron assist in the management of the Trusts portfolio of student placements
Lead and expand midwifery practice placement opportunities, as necessary, across a broad range of clinical areas in conjunction with the guidance from Coventry University and Practice Education Team at UHCW and Coventry University.
Contribute to and provide regular reports to the Curriculum Leads for Midwifery and Practice Education (Coventry University) in relation to all aspects of placement capacity, quality and monitoring in the practice-learning environment. Take a lead role in the governance of Practice Assessor and Supervisor/educator compliance, placement capacity, evaluation of placements, audits, attrition data, and Datix relevant to learners and students.
To lead on Practice Development Initiatives as required and requested by the Director of Midwifery (UHCW) and the Curriculum Lead Practice Education (Coventry University)
3. The post holder will fulfil the role of a specialist midwife within the maternity service, undertaking one shift per month in clinical practice.
4. The post holder will undertake teaching at the University, 2 sessions per month (clinical skills).
5. The post holder will ensure the relevant guidelines and clinical pathways are up to date supporting the practice educator midwives.
6. The post holder will support the future maternity workforce strategy in conjunction with the Maternity Workforce Matron and Director of Midwifery.
