Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time one year Training Fellowship at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) to develop skills in Obstetric Ultrasound and Fetal Medicine.

The post is aimed at ST3+ level or equivalent. The primary aim is to receive training in achieving competence in basic and intermediate Obstetric Ultrasound module, however if the candidate is senior and has already completed the intermediate Obstetrics Ultrasound module then training and experience towards achieving Fetal Medicine ATSM module will also be provided by the Fetal Medicine Subspecialty Consultants.

There is a renowned preterm birth clinic run by Professor Siobhon Quenby and the candidate will get an opportunity to learn cervical length scanning in the preterm birth clinic. The candidate can pursue the RCOG Advanced Professional Module with Professor Siobhon Quenby and there will be a dedicated session every week for this. Our maternal medicine team is well established for its multidisciplinary management for women with complex pathologies such as cardiac, endocrine, gastrointestinal and renal.

Main duties of the job

As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies. Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices and methodologies of UHCWi. You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others. Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a pre requisite for this post.

Gain competence in obstetric ultrasound basic and intermediate, to assess the pregnancy for fetal anomalies, growth and dopplers

Gain experience in the management of fetal anomalies, growth restriction, multiple pregnancies and preterm labour

Attend teaching sessions and present in MDTs

To be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education activities in particular, the provision of clinical skills teaching for both medical students and postgraduate doctors. Providing clinical skills training, bedside teaching, hands on training in the basic ultrasound course, contribute to the perinatal meeting, pathology meeting, Institute for Women's Health MSc course and ongoing audit within the department.
