Job summary
Courier Transport Service is a well established part of West Midlands Ambulance Service with 26 + years experience providing a courier service to health care providers across Stoke and Staffordshire.
We are a small team with a close working relationship with NHSE and Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust.
Although this is not a patient facing position, the role of a courier driver is vital as you will be delivering equipment to health care workers enabling them to do their role, which can be very rewarding.
If you enjoy driving, and meeting people and are self-motivated then this might be just right for you.
Delivering and collecting a variety of items including post, bloods, medical consumables, medical equipment and small items of office furniture across Staffordshire.
Mostly achieved on scheduled daily routes with some AD HOC drivers for urgent requirements. Primarily a Monday to Friday position with very occasional requirement for weekend or Bank Holiday cover.

Job responsibilities
Check oil fuel levels and safety aspects
of vehicle before commencement of daily runs ie. tyres, brakes, lights,
steering etc. reporting any defect to the Leading Driver/Assistant Courier
Transport Service Manager.
Maintain vehicles in a
clean and tidy condition.
Collection/delivery and
sorting of mail, samples, laundry and other items designated by the Assistant
Courier Transport Manager. This may
include a regular schedule.
Transportation of
miscellaneous items eg. medical equipment, meals and office furniture.
Maintain Drivers daily
log sheet.
Maintain any records as
required by the Courier Transport Service Manager.
Refuel vehicle as
required by laid down instructions.
Report breakdowns to
Assistant Courier Transport Service Manager by quickest method, also report
accident damage and submit accident forms.
To maintain safe driving
methods and statutory speed limits at all times, reporting to the Courier
Transport Service Manager any summons received relating to the Road Traffic
Act.
To advise Leading
Driver/Assistant Courier Transport Service Manager of any difficulties
encountered during shift.
Carry out other related
duties as required by either the Leading Driver or Assistant Courier Transport
Service Manager.
Although drivers may be
employed on a fixed shift, they may be required to work on any of the shifts
indicated to meet the needs of the Service.
In addition, some overtime may be required at short notice.
Be prepared to take on
other roles in case of a major incident.

Ensure adherence to directions as
published in Routine Instructions, or other similar documents.
Perform such duties of either a higher
or lower rank as may be reasonable from time to time.
To ensure adherence to the Health and
Safety at Work Act.

and review of the training needs of own peers and colleagues.
To provide professional advice and
assistance in training of Trust employees as appropriate.
