An exciting opportunity has become available for Clinical Team Mentors to join our well established team at Erdington HUB.

Applicants must be HCPC Registered Paramedics with a minimum of 12 months post qualification experience & must have completed their NQP consolidation & portfolio sign off (if applicable) - evidence of this will be required along with a WMAS / University based named mentor experience / qualification.

The Clinical Team Mentor is primarily responsible for ensuring an excellent patient experience and clinical outcome is afforded to patients of WMAS NHS Trust Emergency Service. The post-holder will develop the concept of Clinical Mentorship within their division to ensure that all Operational Staff are supported through means of observation and evaluation and are astute to their clinical responsibility and patient outcome. Through means of application and imparting knowledge keep operational staff abreast of changes to Clinical, Key Performance Indicators and Pathways.

Job responsibilities

Maintain Professional Registration as a Paramedic and undertake continual professional development, to maintain skill levels and knowledge carry out procedures in accordance with JRCALC Guidelines, e.g. defibrillation, cannulation, fluid replacement, intraosseous infusion, intubation, needle cricoidthyrotomy, needle thoracenthesis, 12 lead ECG interpretation and diagnosis to enable thrombolytic therapy (Advanced Life Support). (The above is not an exhaustive list).

To recognise and report to the appropriate authorities any concerns regarding Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults through a single point of access.

Adherence to the following drug legislation:- Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 - 2001 regulations. Prescriptions Only Medication Act 1968,1997 Amendments Act 1992.

Adherence to the law governing the use and documentation of class A and other controlled drugs used and carried within the Trust.

Conduct dynamic risk assessments when responding to incidents for protection of yourself, your crewmate and members of the public and to ensure scene safety, as physical or verbal abuse may be present on occasions.

When required, and until relieved by an appropriate officer, liaise with members of the other Emergency Services undertakes an incident management role.

Knowledge of how to deal with situations involving multiple casualties including road traffic accidents and fires involving trapped or injured persons and be able to discuss with students/ staff members.

Exercise clinical judgement in implementing emergency care/treatment plans and where appropriate required utilising Alternative Care Pathways, e.g. direct admission to a specialist unit such as Coronary Care, referral to specialist community teams for assessment at home.

When indicated exercise clinical judgment for the administration of a range of drugs relevant to the patients needs and appropriate to the skill level of a WMAS Advanced State Registered Paramedic. This will include the use of a class A controlled drug i.e. Morphine Sulphate.

Communicate effectively with clinicians to be able to challenge behaviour and address poor practice.

Accurately and factually complete all WMAS documentation including confidential details as required by the service. On occasions individuals may be expected to give evidence to Her Majestys Coroner or Crown Court.

Plan and undertake annual evaluation on a range of clinical staff designated by the Clinical Practice and Governance Manager.

Provide a structured report to aid clinicians and their line manager to allow personal development reviews to include a clinical practice section.

Responsibility to coach and mentor new and existing clinical staff when they are adopting new clinical practices or new ways of working. Ensure clinical workbooks are completed and submitted for final evaluation and sign off by E&T.

Provide clinical Mentorship and support to members of staff. This would be as a part of a crew or/and in a supernumerary capacity.

Create development plans for staff, either as part of ongoing development or to address issues raised during the yearly evaluation. Maintain process and progress check those plans on a monthly basis.

Liaise with E&T as required for staff requiring further assistance or advice regarding training and/or personal reflective plans.

Complete the necessary clinical observation report to the required standard before submitting to the Clinical Practice and Governance Manager.

Assist with Audits and longitudinal case reviews.

In partnership with the Clinical Practice and Governance Manager review the monthly clinical performance indicators and develop local action plans to improve performance within the area.

Act as a point of contact for staff with clinical queries or advice and know when and where to seek advice from if the information required is outside of your scope of practice.

Maintain a smart appearance at all times, incorporating current regulations relating to the wearing of service uniform.

Adherence to the Code of Conduct, Operational Instructions, Quality Procedures, Data Protection, Caldicott procedures and any other verbal or written instructions promulgated by the service currently or in the future.

To participate in clinical trials, audits and equipment testing as requested.

Maintain a professional portfolio with evidence of ongoing clinical practice, reflective practice and future training needs.

Undertake additional training to develop skills in order to support and advise staff.
