An exciting opportunity has become available for an Enhanced Care Emergency Medical Dispatcher Supervisor who will be responsible for the effective and efficient mobilisation and direction of air and land based Enhanced Care resources. Provide interagency liaison to support MERIT and Air Operations. Line manage, mentor and support Enhanced Care Dispatch staff.

Applicants must have achieved HEMS/Enhanced Care Dispatcher sign off and have a minimum of 12 months post qualification experience within the Air Desk Dispatcher role within an EOC environment

If this position involves a regulated activity it will require an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check. The disclosure will, where appropriate to the role, include information against the Independent Safeguarding Authority barred lists for working with children, adults or both

Where a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is required for the post, all applicants are required to cover the cost of the check. The cost of £55.76 for an enhanced check is payable to our online provider at the time that the DBS application is submitted. Upon receipt of your DBS you will then be required to sign up to the DBS online update service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Responsible for the effective and efficient mobilisation of air and land operational resources to emergency calls and transfers within prescribed guidelines and operational procedures

Control the allocation of cases to helicopter and land assets to secure the most efficient and effective use of resources ensuring responding teams are provided with accurate information required to carry out their duties and responsibilities. This will include the use of computerised mapping systems

Prioritise and manage emergency calls to ensure patient centre tasking of the helicopters and/or response cars. This will include making effective operational decisions based on patients clinical need and operational limits in the event of multiple emergency calls.

Responsible for liaison with Police, Military, Prisons and helicopter operators in addition to other relevant authorities and members of the public in relation to current operational commitments as required. The communications would include, requests for assistance, passing information as to aircraft locations and estimated Time of Arrival, aircraft type and details, etc. this will also involve the knowledge of some strictly confidential details and contacts.

Responsible for passing basic alert information from operational crews and facilitating calls in conjunction with the RTD.

Responsible for correctly implementing hospital landing site procedures to ensure safety of aircrews and public

Maintain up to date information on hospital landing sites and landing site procedures to ensure air desk staff are fully aware

Interpret aviation and meteorological information and advise control centres of the impact on HEMS operations.

Responsible for the accuracy of any data input onto CAD system.

Comply with the requirements of the role as stated within the Enhanced Care Team Dispatch SOP

Liaise with duty crews on each operational enhanced care team and pass that information to local Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) and MERIT leadership team if applicable.

Collate data relating cases on a regular basis and also when requested by the MERIT and Enhanced Care Senior Operations Manager, other senior managers, and NHS clinical audit departments

Ensure that all calls and requests for enhanced care resources are accurately recorded, that the application and operation of computer and information technology equipment is in accordance with established procedures and that the retention and use of personal information conforms to the requirements of the Data Protection Act and Caldicott guidelines.

Liaise with the press department when required ensuring that the use of personal information conforms to the requirements of the Data Protection Act and Caldicott guidelines.

Accept flexible working practices, including flexible shift patterns and times to meet operational needs

Adherence to the code of conduct, operational instructions, quality procedures and other verbal or written instructions from relevent external stakeholders on agreement from West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust

Attend any prescribed course, residential or non-residential, for operation necessity and/or career and personal development

Undertake other relevant duties at the direction of the MERIT and Enhanced Care Senior Operations Manager and/or EOC Commander.

Monitor and maintain Sickness Records for all Enhanced Care Dispatch staff and be contactable by phone for staff reporting sick, and conduct sickness interviews
