Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to become part of the NARU Education team, the dedicated training team provides ongoing support to the UK ambulance service resilience capabilities.

The post holder will be responsible for the development and delivery of a variety of NARU training including HART Modules 1 to 4, Command, Instructor courses and the deliver (on occasions) to other NHS staff and partner agencies.

NARU seeks dynamic and enthusiastic instructors with relevant and current training experience.

The post holder will work at the NARU Education Centre, located at the Defence CBRN Centre, Winterbourne Gunner, Wiltshire and other locations around the country such as the Fire Service College, Moreton-in-Marsh.

The position is a secondment or fixed term opportunity for twelve months with the opportunity to extend following consultation with the individual, NARU and their trust. There will be a three-month probationary period at the beginning of the secondment.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

Auditable instructor or trainer qualifications

Experience of instruction / training at a national / regional level

Experience of planning, delivering & assessing practical training sessions / exercises

Experience of working within the emergency services, health, military or adult education (further education or vocational) environment

Proven presentational and written skills

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills

Effective management of time, resources and records

Being an effective team member capable of working within challenging environments and an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Much of the training will take place in outside locations in all weather conditions. Applicants will be expected to deliver practical training in such conditions and to work varied hours to suit the role. Uniform and equipment will be provided. The majority of NARU courses are residential and the successful candidate will be required to reside on site during delivery of the modules.

Where a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is required for the post, applicants are required to cover the cost of the check. The cost of £42.50 for an enhanced check is payable to our online provider at the time that the DBS application is submitted. Upon receipt of your DBS you will then be required to sign up to the DBS online update service.

  2. To assist with research, design and delivery of all aspects of NARU and HART training, including training information sheets, competency development and training packages.
  3. To assist with the administrative functions of NARU and HART training, to ensure that the training is effective.
  4. To assist in the development of additional courses / modules and undertake duties as required by the project and associated work streams.
  5. To evaluate courses, identifying development needs and recommendation for improvements, where appropriate.
  6. To attend and offer subject expertise at meetings (including Technical User Groups)
  7. To work, and develop partnerships, with the wider CBRN/USAR multiagency community related to NARUs training.
  8. To maintain and further develop a high level of subject knowledge, both in training and operations to include Diversity, Health and Safety etc.

9. To be prepared to undertake further training and development appropriate to the role.

10. To be prepared to work away from home with accommodation.

11. To adopt a flexible approach to the working week, this may on occasions involve travelling on weekends.
