Job summary

Provide clinical scientific and radiation protection services in support of uses of ionising radiation

Participate in service development and improvement. Initiate and contribute to research and development projects.

Appointment at Band 6 would be considered for those with less experience with a modified job description.

Main duties of the job

To support the Clinical and Radiation Physics service within Diagnostic radiography.

Undertake quality control tests on imaging equipment (i.e. CT scanners, general x-ray, dental and interventional radiology) and other associated equipment to the relevant standards. Support Radiation Protection Advisers and Medical Physics Experts in providing a high quality and effective radiation protection service.

Involvement in teaching and training of a range of staff groups including to external customers such as FRCR and University of Plymouth.

2.3 Develop and maintain IT solutions for departmental activities. This includes development and maintenance of spreadsheets and databases, simple networking and specialist analytical tools.

2.4 In liaison with the Medical Physics Expert(s) and senior staff from other departments, assist in drafting specifications for, and in the evaluation of, major items of radiological equipment.

2.5 Provide written and oral reports to staff and customers providing advice and interpretation where required.
