Job summary
There is an approximately 1:12 on-call commitment with 12 hour shifts. Out of hours 8 pm to 8 am on call includes covering Plastic Surgery and ENT supported by the Plastic Surgery and ENT registrars. The rest of the time will be for ward rounds, ward duties, elective and trauma clinic and especially for those juniors with a keen interest in surgery the opportunity to help in theatre and perform minor procedures.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a StR Lower, who will see and triage acute referrals from the hospital and GP's, review patients in an outpatient setting and assist in their treatment including minor surgical procedures. It is desirable although not essential that candidates have obtained the MRCS and possess experience in Plastic Surgery.

The post holder will join the Specialist Registrars daily and on call rota and will work closely with all Consultants in the care of routine and emergency clinical problems. The post holder will see all patients admitted to the Plastic Surgery Unit and perform a daily ward round with the Consultants, SpRs and SHOs. The post holder will join a 1 in 12 on call rota covering Plastic Surgical emergencies across the Trust and support to the Major Trauma Centre. The post holder will be expected to assist in the operating theatre and will undertake elective and emergency surgery, with supervision where appropriate. There are regular outpatient clinics and local anaesthetic operating lists. Teaching and supervision is provided for all the Plastic Surgery juniors.
Detailed protocols for clinical management are available which the post holders are expected to adhere to at all times.
