Job summary
We are looking to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow to join the OG team. This person will undertake some aspects of the OG service, such as theatres and outpatient clinics, as well as being part of the General Surgical rota for on call.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has become available in our busy OG, for a Senior Clinical Fellow. This is not a formally recognised training post, but the successful candidate will be given the same training opportunities as those on a recognised training programme.
This post provides an excellent opportunity for exposure to a large number of general surgery cases as well as subspecialty practice in OG. The successful candidate will participate in the standard work of the unit, including commitment to the general surgery on call rota in line with other middle grade doctors on the general surgical unit. There will be a commitment to the teaching of medical students within the post.
About us
University Plymouth Hospitals is a large tertiary referral centre for hepato-pancreatobiliary and oesophago-gastric surgery with large colorectal, breast and vascular units.
There is an extensive commitment to emergency workload with an acute take usually admitting around 30 patients in 24 hours and the sub-speciality Colorectal, OG and HPB units running a speciality-specific rota on call 7 days a week.
The HPB unit has 5 consultants and the unit undertakes both open and laparoscopic surgery for complex benign and malignant conditions of liver, pancreas, and biliary system. The unit also undertake retroperitoneal sarcoma resections.
The OG team consists of 6 consultants and is one of the largest volume resection centres in the UK.
