An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated dietitian to join the dietetic department at University Hospitals Plymouth (UHP). The successful candidate will work as a member of the specialist orthopaedic multidisciplinary team to provide a dietetic service to orthopaedic inpatients.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

  • To work as an active member of the specialist orthopaedic multidisciplinary team
  • To be responsible for providing a specialist dietetic service, following evidence-based practice across the orthopaedic wards at UHP
  • To participate in regular teaching and training for patients and healthcare professionals
  • To supervise dietetic assistant(s) and dietetic students
  • To monitor and report dietetic outcome measures for orthopaedic inpatients
  • To act as a reliable source of dietetic knowledge and provide expertise to patients, relatives and healthcare professionals
  • To participate in audit and research related to orthopaedics in order to improve clinical outcomes and develop the dietetic service
  • To be involved in nutrition and dietetic departmental activities and contribute to the delivery of a Trust wide dietetic service.

  • Demonstrable Post-graduate NHS experience across a variety of specialities, including surgical experience
  • An understanding of Orthopaedics and the role nutrition plays in the acute and recovery phase post-surgery
  • Proven knowledge of anthropometry, biochemistry and pharmacology to undertake a full nutrition assessment specific to Orthopaedic patients
  • Competence in calculating nutritional requirements

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience in audits and research
