Job summary

Following significant investment by the Trust board as part of a 5-year workforce plan, we are able to offer the post ofa Band 5 Pharmacy Technician - Homecare.

Working in a team of experienced team members, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in a team that manages Homecare services across a wide variety of therapy areas including Dermatology, Rheumatology and Neurology.

The post holder will have the opportunity to be involved in leading a team of specialist pharmacy support assistants providing medicines, ancillaries, and nursing to more than 5,000 patients across Devon and Cornwall.

Depending on the stage of your career, further study will be encouraged and there will be the opportunity to complete the PWDS Homecare Screening Programme and attend PPSA Homecare meetings to find out more about how Homecare services are managed regionally.

Main duties of the job

To support homecare services for University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

To support in the management of invoicing and statement of accounts from homecare providers.

To support the management of incidents and complaints.

To support the management of Senior Pharmacy Support Assistants (SPSAs) in day-to-day work and training.

To support prescription management.

To ensure BlueTeq requirements are adhered to as part of the Homecare process.

Please note:

This post is open to experienced pharmacy technicians who have their ACPT and MMT Qualifications and at least 6 months demonstrable post-registration in experience in a hospital pharmacy.

This post is also suitable for newly qualified pharmacy technicians who have completed a GPhC-accredited 2-year apprenticeship and have their ACPT and MMT qualifications.

Newly qualified pharmacy technicians without 6 months post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy will initially be recruited to band 4 for a 6-month post registration period. Upon completion of this 6-month period, progression to band 5 will be awarded.

Homecare Administration

To co-ordinate Homecare processes in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, safe working systems, and the legal framework for the Supply of Medicines.

To maintain the EMIS drug files for prices, removal of out of use templates, contract reference maintenance and contract pricing.

To manage new drug file requests

To ensure SOPs and Forms are regularly updated on Q-Pulse and to notify staff of changes.

To manage/support the appropriate electronic archiving of Homecare documentation.

To help with patient transitions when new contracts are awarded.

To manage the complaints and incidents process and distribute prior to PPSA meetings.

To manage IV Antimicrobial referrals.

To support the Lead and Senior Pharmacy Technicians with reporting into relevant quality management systems.

To manage/support the daily Homecare Team huddle and attend other relevant huddles.

To manage the generic email and efficiently and effectively resolve queries.

To support the investigation of Datix, and the reporting of deviations.

To manage/support with Quality Improvement projects.

To support with Homecare 'Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) reports and databases.

To support with patient/clinic queries and to escalate when necessary.

To update the exception database when required.

To support financial improvement work.

To undertake relevant line management duties such as 1:1s, absence management and appraisals.

To support with the training of relevant staff.

To support management of BlueTeq compliance and the audit tool for Homecare.

To ensure that IVIG Databases are updated when Homecare prescriptions have been received.

PPSA and Homecare Providers

To arrange the onboarding of new medications on Homecare and introduction meetings between the Homecare provider and therapy area.

To arrange Homecare provider Service Review Meetings. Monthly for the first 6 months, and then quarterly for established therapies.

To arrange urgent Service Review Meetings if a service is not fulfilling its obligations.

To participate in regional face-to-face and MS Teams meetings and bi-monthly conference calls with the Peninsula Purchasing Supply Alliance (PPSA).

To participate in contract re-tenders.

Prescription Management

To supervise the prescription management workflow.

To support the building, authorisation and distribution of patient specific order prescriptions by the most appropriate methods.

To assist the team in the introduction and use of E-Sign (e-Rx).

Invoicing

To support the various statements of accounts that are received from each Homecare provider in a timely manner and the updating of the statements to accurately reflect the status of debt.

To manage/support the download and appropriate storage of invoices from portals and emails

To manage the matching and price checking of invoices against Homecare prescriptions.

To manage/support the payment of invoices and the resolution of queries.

To ensure all due invoices have been passed for payment by month end unless in query.

To chase any missing invoices before month end.

To manage/support the prompt resolution of credits that have been issued by the Homecare suppliers.

Training
