We have exciting times ahead within Elective Orthopaedics in Derriford Hospital as we are soon opening a brand-new theatre suite which will also include a self-contained admissions area and state of the art medi-rooms for optimum patient experience.
We are looking to recruit to our scrub practitioner team within this fantastic new development. We of course welcome those with demonstrable orthopaedic elective scrub experience , however we have in place a full Theatre Foundations Programme and a comprehensive training programme ready to go for all new starters, so if you are a registered nurse or ODP that has not worked in the scrub role or even the theatre environment before we would still welcome applications from interested candidates. Successful candidates will be patient orientated, enthusiastic and able to work in a dynamic, ever developing environment.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
- Primarily working within the scrub and circulatory role within theatres
- Provides high quality care to patients and their families during the perioperative period.
- Act as Practitioner in charge, in the absence of the Team Leader ensuring efficient allocation of staff and resources.
- Demonstrates a commitment to evidence-based practice and clinical excellence and play an active role in the introduction of this evidence to improve patient centred care.
- To engage and interact with patients and their carers, explaining procedures and treatments to gain co-operation, understanding and allay apprehension.
- Assist with projects to develop and enhance patient care. Participate in the evaluation of patient outcomes, including audit, risk management and infection control.
- Assists in other clinical areas and speciality theatres if the clinical situation and staffing levels demand.
- Attend relevant meetings and deliver feedback.
- To develop and achieve objectives identified through continuing appraisal of job role.
- Demonstrating an awareness of and compliance with Health and Safety regulations/procedures that apply to staff, patients and visitors within the trust premises, reporting any deficiencies in equipment, furnishings or matters of hygiene.
- Efficient and effective use of available resources.
