We are pleased to be able to offer an opportunity for an experienced Dental Surgeon to join our team to support us with our treatment services in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP) is a regional trauma centre and one of the largest hospitals in the Southwest of England. We are offering a contract of 7-10 PAs plus on call commitment.We are looking for a team member with GDC registration and at least 3 years' experience of oral and maxillofacial surgery as a DCT or SAS, including the management of acute patients through on-call duties.There is an opportunity to join the second on-call team, or to develop skills to enable you to do so. You will be expected to work in partnership with other team members to plan, co-ordinate and deliver care for our patients. You will be offered a structured induction and support, with opportunities for your career development. UHP offer SAS wider opportunities to become a clinical supervisor, educational supervisor appraiser etc. There is a UHP SAS academic tutor with access to the SAS personal development fund.

The OMFS department forms part of a team with Orthodontics (part of the Southwest Cleft Team) and Restorative Dentistry.
We are based in a dedicated OMFS unit in the main hospital building supported by in-house dental radiography and OMFS/dental specialties laboratory with dedicated office space provided.
You will be part of a very approachable team and provided with educational support including:
- Study leave allowance for undertaking postgraduate courses or examinations
- We would support development of further clinical and professional skills.

Our department in Derriford Hospital includes a dental imaging suite and a laboratory with three experienced technicians. We have good working relationship with the Peninsula Dental School, with potential opportunities for teaching and research.
Plymouth is an ocean city situated in West Devon close to the border with Cornwall. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty with easy access to many beaches, to beautiful countryside and to Dartmoor. Rail and road links to Bristol and London are good.
Job responsibilities
The post holder should have adequate experience in OMFS conditions including dentoalveolar surgery, and dental trauma, oral medicine, paediatric dentoalveolar surgery as well as the understanding and management of simple maxillofacial trauma. They would also have experience in running their own local anaesthetic (LA) dentoalveolar lists.
The post involves exposure to various areas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including:
- Dentoalveolar surgery (adult and paediatric), facial and dental trauma, orofacial malignancy, oral medicine and the treatment of facial deformities.
