Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Fire Safety Team within the Planning and Site Services Directorate within University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, in the position of Deputy Head of Fire Safety, which is part of our Estates Department based at Derriford Hospital.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with significant experience of Fire Protection/Prevention to join the Trust Fire Safety Team.

The Fire Safety Team provides a range of specialist expert advice and assistance to a wide range of staff, senior managers and Trust Directors and experience of fire risk assessments in complex settings is essential together with relevant fire safety qualifications.

You will be required to deputise and support the Head of Fire Safety with expertise on fire matters, producing reports on performance as required carrying out assurance audits and provide specialist support to the Trust on all aspects of fire safety, providing support for implementing the Trusts Fire Safety Policy.

You will require experience of producing and delivering training, supported by a relevant training qualification.

Knowledge of relevant Building Regulations Guidance documents and current fire safety legislation is essential. You should have significant experience of fire safety awareness including the relevant NHS standards and legislative requirements.

Main duties of the job

  • Deputise the day-to-day role for the Head of Fire Safety in their absence.
  • To be the competent person for the Trust when required.
  • Support the Head of Fire Safety with expertise on fire matters.
  • Support the Head of Fire Safety in producing reports on performance as required.
  • Support the Head of Fire Safety in carrying out assurance audits within the Trust to ensure compliance.
  • Support the Head of Fire Safety to compile and regularly review all risks appertaining to the fire system infrastructure, leading to the delivery of safe practice and measures to minimise the impact of risks.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
