An Exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated Registered Nurse to take on the role of Practice educator band 6 on Merrivale ward.
Merrivale ward is a 32 bedded southwest Neuro and Stroke Unit that cares for patients who have suffered stroke or have a neurological conditions.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, experienced nurse with a passion to educate and share knowledge and skills.
We are seeking to recruit someone with the commitment to help us provide a high-quality service for patients visiting the department and to help to continue to develop the unit and workforce further.
Working as a clinical educator in such a specialised area is a challenging job which comes with many rewards, if you are self-motivated, and have a keen interest in neurology /stroke and education then this job would suit you.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
- In collaboration with the ward manager and Matron take the lead role in the education & training needs of the wards.
- To identify the educational needs of the staff within clinical area & to establish a rolling programme of education
- To ensure high standards of care in accordance with agreed policies, procedures & standards.

- Ensure that your personal clinical & managerial knowledge is regularly updated, developed & maintained at an expert practitioner level.
- To act as a mentor to junior colleagues, supporting & assisting them to provide high quality nursing care.
- To recognise the developmental needs of junior colleagues & provide an environment in which knowledge & skills can be developed in a supportive way, without compromising the safety & care of patients.
- Develop a learning environment, which meets the needs of pre & post registration students & staff members working within the area.
Coordinate the implementation of teaching programmes, including identification & assessment of learning objectives.
Ensure all new staff undergo a planned induction & orientation programme when joining the ward.
Take part in ward based audit work in conjunction with the Ward Manager and Matron
