Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust. The post holder will provide services for head and neck oncology and reconstruction as well as general oral and maxillofacial surgery and trauma on call.
This post has become available following retirement.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will provide head and neck oncology and reconstructive services in partnership with the existing oncology consultant. In addition to general maxillofacial and trauma services, leading the junior team in partnership with the two established Maxillofacial Consultants.
On call consists of a 1 in 3 rota weekdays covering University Hospitals Plymouth and 1 in 7 weekends on call covering University Hospitals Plymouth and Torbay with twenty-four-hour registrar/SAS grade cover and 1st on-call DCT/F2.
Our plan is to reduce the on-call to a 1 in 4 weekdays and 1 in 8 weekends with the appointment of a further OMFS consultant)

The Maxillofacial department takes part in all expected clinical governance activities in line with UHP policies and process. All staff are expected to take part and will of course be subject to annual appraisal and revalidation. Monthly CME meetings are combined with departmental meetings to support staff development and improvements to departmental service provision.
Education
The Trust is working in partnership with the Peninsula Medical School, and the Peninsula Dental School. The Maxillofacial department makes a significant contribution to undergraduate education including Special Study Units, Plenary Lectures and formal teaching to both Dental and Medical Undergraduate students. Teaching activities generally are shared flexibly between interested staff.
Research
Research is actively encouraged. There is extensive opportunity and enthusiasm within the Department, Hospital and Peninsula Medical School for research developments.
On-Call Arrangements
