Learning Disability Clinical Lead Nurse - 7
The Learning Disability (LD) and Autism Liaison Services provides cover during the hours of 08.00 to 16.00 Monday to Sunday. We work with the patient, carers, ward staff and community staff to ensure that these group of people are able to achieve the same health care outcomes as everybody else.
We encourage people to contact us as soon as they are aware that the they or an individual with a LD and /or who are Autistic will need to access the hospital for any reason, so that we can ensure that the need for any Reasonable Adjustments (RA) are identified and implemented, thereby improving the likelihood of a successful healthcare outcomes and the persons experience.
We are recruiting a permanent Band 7 positions at 37.5 hrs per week as:

Main duties of the job
- Improve the quality of care and experience received by people (all ages) who are Autistic in the hospital setting as set out in the Autism Strategy (2015) and NICE Autism (2014) guidelines.
- Provide advice in the assessment of the needs of people who are Autistic regarding the Equality Duty Act (2010), Mental Capacity Act (2005), safeguarding adults, best interest decisions and deprivation of liberties assessment (DOLS)
- Ensure appropriate and timely reasonable adjustments are made to the care pathways for individuals who are identified as vulnerable adults and/or complex people who are Autistic.
- Develop effective and collaborative relationships with healthcare and multi-agency colleagues to promote that people who are Autistic get equal and timely access to acute care services - including identifying and meeting the training needs of staff groups and providing specialist nursing advice.
- Input into the incorporation of the philosophy outlined in Autism Act (2009) and Equality Act (2010) within the relevant Trust policies, procedures and overarching structures including a robust clinical governance framework.
- Responsible for the line management of the Learning Disability Liaison (LDL)and Autism liaison (AL) teams; this includes recruitment, supervision, performance management, appraisal, and future development of the teams.

- In the absence of the Specialist Nurse Manager for Learning Disability (LD) and Autism Services will deputise for both the LDL and AL teams.
- Responsible for reporting on the pay budget, non-pay budget supporting the team, and any charitable funds held or applied for the use of the autism spectrum liaison service.
- Required to lead on sustaining or developing mechanisms, processes, and resources, so that Trust staff are able to identify or support people who are Autistic to identify their own individual needs/reasonable adjustments when in hospital, so that Trust staff can facilitate safe and effective care.
- Required to lead on Trust wide system reasonable adjustments in the acute care settings (environmental, processes, specialist patient pathways).
- Ensure learning from national reports and serious case reviews is embedded in and visible in training/practice within the Trust.
- Create and deliver education programs and supervision in the role of specialist nurse, to a range of health professionals including trainee and junior nurse practitioners, paramedic practitioners, medical staff, medical and nursing students.
- Work in partnership with other professions and agencies in the risk assessment and planning of how to implement care or treatment for high risk patients i.e., individuals who have phobias or are non-complaint with fluctuating capacity.
- Advise managers in relation to Trust employees on support that neurodiverse staff may need in the workplace.
- It is expected at times that the post holder will support people with a LD who are not autistic as per LDL team nursing processes and Trust Policy.
