Job summary
The Radiotherapy Department is equipped with three Varian linacs (Truebeam, Novalis TX & Clinac iX), all with OBI, RapidArc and respiratory gating facilities. The Novalis linac has ExacTrac Image-Guided radiotherapy for stereotactic treatment (intracranial SRS and SRT) and currently, more than 130 patients per year undergo stereotactic radiotherapy.
We are planning a further bunker to support departmental expansion, with the expectation of new treatment facilities in 2024 which will include a dedicated brachytherapy theatre and planning suite. Pre-treatment imaging activity is carried out on the department's new wide bore CT scanner with access to MR and PET-CT in the hospital.
Treatment Planning is carried out on the Eclipse and Elements Brainlab Treatment Planning Systems, with a high proportion of patient treatment sites undergoing VMAT techniques as standard.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate advanced proven knowledge in all areas of Radiotherapy Physics providing scientific support for the oncology department. The applicant will be a registered Clinical Scientist under the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Previous demonstrable experience in image guided radiotherapy (including SGRT), radiotherapy planning, brachytherapy or SRS would be desirable, however training will be provided as required.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop their radiotherapy physics skills by participating in specialist radiotherapy such as Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRS), brachytherapy and surface guided radiotherapy (SGRT).
They will provide scientific advice to the oncology department, participate in as well as attend scientific conferences and take a lead in development projects and continuing professional development. They will also actively participate in teaching and training within the section as well as engage in the commissioning of the new linear accelerator in our purpose-built treatment facilities with a current completion date of 2024.
