Main duties of the job

The Nursing Associate (NA) is a highly trained support role registered and regulated by the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) which bridges the gap between Healthcare Assistants (HCA's) and Registered Nurses (RN's).

Nursing Associates deliver hands-on care for patients of all ages and in a variety of settings under the in-direct supervision and leadership of a registered nurse.

Nursing Associates deliver and monitor care, and at times this will be independently in line with the prescribed or defined plan of care.

Registered nurses will continue to be the primary assessors and prescribers of care while nursing associates deliver and adapt care, contribute to on-going assessment and recognise when to escalate to the registered nurse or other healthcare professionals within agreed parameters.

As registered professionals, nursing associates are individually accountable for their own professional conduct and practice. They will be expected to uphold the NMC Code, to work within their scope of practice and to raise concerns when needed
