Job summary
Applications are invited for a position as a Consultant ENT Surgeon with a special interest in Otology, Lateral Skull Base Surgery and Balance Disorders at University Hospital Plymouth.
Main duties of the job
The workload will include adult and paediatric otology, and additional general ENT as dictated by the needs of the department. There will also be involvement in general elective and emergency ENT care as part of a general ENT on-call.
About us
There is a dedicated, well-equipped ENT theatre with up-to-date endoscopic equipment for otology, endoscopic sinus surgery and airway endoscopy as well as video cameras and facilities for recording. The department has a 'state of the art' image guidance system for anterior skull base and endoscopic sinus surgery. There is a dedicated Paediatric Theatre Suite staffed by Paediatric Anaesthetists and nursing staff. Paediatric in-patients are cared for on two general wards together with a four-bedded High Dependency Unit. The hospital also has a busy regional NICU. Adult in-patients are cared for on a 32 bed ward shared flexibly with Maxillofacial, Plastic Surgery and Urology.
The ENT Department has six fully-equipped modern consulting rooms, three treatment rooms with microscopes. Extra facilities include flexible nasolaryngoscopes in each room, Hopkins Rod rhinoscopes, rigid otoscopes, stroboscopy with chip-tip flexible nasendoscopes, video-otoscopy and videonystagmography.Subspeciality clinics including voice disorders (with a Speech and Language Therapist), nasal disorders, congenital hearing loss, balance, and NF2 are run regularly. Peripheral clinics are performed by most consultants, and cover a large area from Liskeard and Launceston in Cornwall to the South Hams in the East.
