Main duties of the job

Proven Professional registration e.g. NMC/HCPC

To promote best practice in moving and handling, resuscitation, medical devices and gases to support the implementation of a safe environment for staff and patients.

To plan, deliver and evaluate moving and handling, resuscitation, medical gas and medical device training programmes Trustwide. Including departmental bespoke programmes as required supporting effective management practice and increasing workforce productivity. Facilitating the Trust in achieving its Health and Safety strategy.

To actively maintain a professional moving and handling, resuscitation, medical gas, and medical device advisory service across the Trust and provide specialist advice in relation to moving and handling, medical gas, and medical devices for all clinical and non-clinical staff.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Support the Moving and Handling and Resuscitation lead in the design, delivery, and evaluation of moving and handling and resuscitation programmes- including induction, in accordance with Trust and national priorities.
  • Deliver moving and handling, resuscitation, medical gas, and medical device programmes in line with the training plans and according to Trust requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong links with frontline Service Directorates to facilitate communication and effective working relationships and provide training advice and support to managers supported by the Moving and Handling and resuscitation Lead,
  • Prepare staff in clinical practice for the Moving and Handling key worker role.
  • Deliver Keyworker for moving and handling and Train the Trainer Training for resuscitation.
  • Conduct competence assessments of the key workers and trainers, providing verbal and written feedback in line with curriculum and ongoing support and supervision.
  • Provide service line bespoke training according to specific requirements with agreement of the Moving and Handling Lead and Resuscitation Lead.
  • Provide advice to service lines which enables them to implement the findings of the moving and handling risk assessments.
  • Demonstrate and facilitate the learning of appropriate moving and handling principles and skills to groups of multidisciplinary health care staff within a training environment and as appropriate in a work environment. Utilising and encouraging problem solving approaches to create a learning environment in which staff can achieve their learning objectives.
  • With leadership of the Moving and Handling and Resuscitation lead, implement new learning methodologies to create an inclusive learning environment, extend the use of e-learning packages and intranet resources.
  • Document training provided and complete and maintain accurate training records. Ensure that standards of record keeping meet the required standards to mitigate risks to the trust working with the legal department and governance.
  • Inform managers of any concerns with the ability of trainees to demonstrate safe practice so that the appropriate action may be taken.
  • Provide support and supervision for the moving handling assistant trainer taking accountability in the training environment and care settings.
  • Support the process for moving and handling and resuscitation incident investigation at ward/department level. Initiate immediate action where necessary following an incident to promote safety to staff and patients.
  • Establish and maintain links with managers, Medical Device Link Practitioners, Resuscitation Link Trainers and Moving and Handling key workers, providing specialist advice on clinical and non-clinical incidents and improving patient care. Investigate incidents and attend meetings as appropriate, supporting managers in conducting root cause analysis of incidents, where necessary reporting to the leads.
  • Respond to daily calls and bleeps by providing in depth expert advice in complex moving and handling and situations, providing direct patient care in practice e.g. Plus size patients.
  • Weekday duty advisor to provide expert advice and interventions to managers and departments in relation to incidents real time as they occur, reporting back to the.
  • Manage specific projects as identified by the Moving and Handling and Resuscitation Lead feeding back as appropriate.
  • Support the Moving and Handling lead and Resuscitation Lead to work with the procurement department in the trial and procurement of specialist equipment.
  • Maintain own professional practice to continue to provide specialist advice in this field of practice.
  • Directly lead/assist staff in carrying out moving and handling, medical gas and medical device tasks for the critically ill, dependent, and Plus Size patients.
  • Work within the clinical governance framework to provide high quality patient care and maintaining dignity, privacy, safety, and comfort.
  • Act as a mediator between staff and patient, when the need to use moving and handling equipment to meet the needs of the patient becomes an issue.
  • To participate in monitoring practice of staff and conducting audits
  • Follow up Moving and Handling, Medical gas and medical device incidents providing advice and support as required completing relevant documentation in line with the Trusts risk management policy, reporting to the Moving and Handling Lead and Senior Resuscitation Officer, conduct root cause analysis, reporting back to service line managers of findings.
