MEDICAL PHYSICS EXPERT & RADIATION PROTECTION ADVISER

(DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY)

Band 8b Full Time 37.5 Hours

The Clinical and Radiation Physics Group provides scientific and technical support services for diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation protection within the NHS, private and academic sectors. The team provide radiation protection advice across a wide range of modalities including Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine.

The post holder will act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) and appointed Radiation Protection Adviser to University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and other customers and organisations supported by the group.

You will provide MPE advice to support compliance with the Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations 2017 (IRMER 17), e.g. undertake audits, support drafting and review of procedures, provide response to relevant clinical governance queries.

Main duties of the job

PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  1. Specialist Duties / Appointed Expert

  • The post holder will act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) for an agreed range of modalities and curstomers, provide advice on optimisation of equipment and technical factors for radiological procedures in conjunction with other Medical Physics Experts as appropriate. The post holder will review equipment test results and provide appropriate advice on the required actions.
  • The post holder will act as an appointed Radiation Protection Adviser to UHPT and other supported customers and organisations as directed by the Head of Clinical and Radiation Physics. The post holder will provide expert advice to the Trust and other organisations regarding the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017.
  • The post holder will work autonomously to achieve the expected results, guided by broad occupational policies & guidance from Trust appointed advisers of which the post holder is
  • The post holder will provide MPE advice to support compliance with the Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations 2017 (IRMER 17), e.g. undertake audits, support drafting and review of procedures, provide response to relevant clinical governance queries.
  • The post holder will support the investigation of adverse events involving ionising radiation. Calculate dose and risk in the event of unnecessary, inadvertent or accidental irradiation or doses greater than intended

Desirable

QUALIFICATIONS
