University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust are excited to announce that we will be holding a Healthcare Assistant Recruitment Day on Saturday 3rd December 2022, on site at Derriford Hospital.
We have exciting opportunities for enthusiastic, motivated Health Care Assistants to join various Units, Wards and Departments.
Successful candidates should have a Vocational Qualification in Health & Social Care L2, an equivalent level of demonstrable experience or a desire to work in health care.
No previous experience of care work? No problem...
For those without a level 2 qualification in health care a period of training will need to be undertaken as either an apprentice or by completing the Support Worker Development Programme.

Main duties of the job
GCSEs Grade A-D/3-9 in Maths and English or Functional Skills level 1 in Maths and English Plus either NVQ level 2 in Health & Social Care or HCA.
UHP Level 2 or Demonstrable evidence of working towards - 75% completed (or equivalent transferable qualification) OR Demonstrable equivalent experience (NVQ Level 2 equivalent) as a Healthcare Assistant in a Band 2 clinical role and/or agree to undertake the UHP Healthcare Support Worker course.
Willing to undertake a competency-based assessment at interview. Undertake and complete the Care Certificate training programme offered in-house
For candidates that don't fully meet the qualifications being asked, we may be able to offer you the Health Care Support Worker program or the apprenticeship program

PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY This job description describes the role that the Healthcare Support Worker will be working to within their clinical area. Supervision and support will be provided during tasks, supporting the Healthcare Support Worker to safely gain experience and confidence and to successfully complete any associated training programmes deemed necessary. The role of the Healthcare Support Worker is to: Promote a positive patient experience throughout their use of our services Maintain professional behaviours at all times Demonstrate empathy, dignity, respect and compassion at all times Work as part of a team Undertake direct patient care, in support of and as directed by the registered practitioner which will include providing assistance with: o Hygiene needs e.g. personal hygiene including care of hair, nails, oral hygiene and shaving o Continence management o Feeding and encouraging fluids including the maintenance of fluid balance and dietary charts including weighing the patients regularly as directed o Mobility using mobility aids/hoists where appropriate following appropriate training o Repositioning and monitoring of pressure areas, bed making, cleaning o Communication o Care of the deteriorating patient and end of life patients To support registered staff with the physical health, comfort and wellbeing of patients, including physiological observations using the NEWs scoring system under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Practitioner.
