Post Title:Anatomy Demonstrator in Trauma and Orthopaedics

Contract:FTC 1 year

We are looking to appoint six Trust Doctors (Non-Training Grade at ST 1-2/CT 1-2 level) to commence between August and December 2022 until 1 August 2023. These are fixed term developmental posts working with the medical school 2 out of 5 weeks during University term time and providing clinical service provision to the Trauma and Orthopaedic department at other times. This post compliments doctors working towards the MRCS Part A exam looking to pursue a career in surgery. The successful applicants will work within the core anatomy education team at the University of Plymouth providing students with support, guidance and high-quality anatomy teaching and learning.

Main duties of the job

The primary focus is on teaching the undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) and postgraduate Physician Associate Studies (PgDip) courses, although there are opportunities to provide teaching to clinical and allied health profession staff within the NHS.

3 out of 5 weeks during term time and outside of term time the successful applicants will give support to the day to day running of the Trauma and Orthopaedic department and be involved in their full shift rota including day and night shifts (cross covering neurosurgery) and weekend ward cover.

Derriford Hospital has been nominated as a Major Trauma Centre in the South West, the Trauma and Orthopaedic department is a busy department with two main trauma wards (60 beds) looking after a wide range of trauma presentations. The hospital also has Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery and Thoracic surgery Units on site and caters for multiply injured patients from the Peninsula region. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience in the peri-operative management of these patients on the ward with a daily Consultant ward round.
